  1. What do I get when I complete the course?
    After you have completed your CBT course and attained a satisfactory level of skill, you will recieve your CBT certificate (DL196) which validates the provisional part of your driving licence.

  2. How long does my CBT Certificate last?
    Your CBT certificate lasts for two (2) years from the date of issue.

  3. What do I do when my Certificate runs out and I want to continue riding my motorcycle?
    All you do is complete another CBT Course.

  4. If I completed the course on an automatic bike, but wish to buy a geared bike, does my current CBT Certificate cover me?
    Yes - you do not have to re-take the course.

  5. If I completed my CBT course when I was 16, when I turn 17 years old and want to ride a bigger bike, does my current CBT Certificate cover me?

  6. What type of motorcycle can I ride at age 16 years?
    At 16 years old your DL196 certificate entitles you to legally ride a motorcycle with engine size of no more than 50cc, restricted to a maximum speed of 30mph, either Automatic, Semi-automatic or Geared.

  7. What type of motorcycle can I ride at age 17 years or older?
    At 17 years old your CBT (DL196) certificate entitles you to legally ride a motorcycle with engine size of no more than 125cc, restricted to no more than 14.6 BHP (Brake Horse Power), either Automatic, Semi-automatic or Geared. If you want to ride anything of greater engine capacity or power you will have to pass your full motorcycle test.

  8. What restrictions are imposed upon me as a Learner Rider?
    You must have "L" plates clearly visible and of standard size (no cut-downs) on the front and rear of your motorcycle.
    You must not ride on restricted roads (i.e. no motorways).
    You must NOT carry a pillion passenger.

  9. When can I take my "L" plates off?
    You may only remove your "L" plates when you have passed a *full motorcycle test. A fine of up to £60 and 3 points on your licence if you have either or both of them missing.
    * If you have passed a car test, and did so before February the 1st, 2001, then you may ride a 50cc motorcycle, restricted to 30mph, without "L" plates and may carry pillion passengers.

  10. At what age can I take my full motorcycle test?
    You will be eligible to take your Full Motorcycle Test from the age of 17 years onwards.

  11. What Other Legal requirements do I have to comply with?
    PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS BELOW MUST BE MET BEFORE YOU RIDE YOUR MOTORCYCLE ON THE ROAD :
    1. L PLATES, CLEARLY VISIBLE ON THE FRONT AND REAR OF YOU MOTORCYCLE, OF STANDARD SIZE (NOT CUT DOWN IN ANY WAY)
    2. CORRECTLY FASTENED BRITISH OR EUROPEAN STANDARD SAFETY HELMET WORN ON YOUR HEAD
    3. DRIVING LICENCE WITH YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS
    4. CBT CERTIFICATE (DL196)

    5. ROAD TAX
    6. INSURANCE
    7. VALID MOT (IF NEEDED)
    8. ROADWORTHY MOTORCYCLE.
